Seize the Day Marketing Group, Inc. recently
received two awards from the South Dakota Small Business Administration.
Owner Kari Gabrielson-Jagodzinski, was honored at the annual black Hills
community
economic Development Banquet on May 3 for her efforts in assisting small
businesses. She was presented the South Dakota Home-Based Business Advocate
of the Year award. She also was the winner of the Regional Home-Based
Business Advocate of the Year Award.
Gabrielson-Jagodzinski's marketing consulting
business started out of a home office five years ago. In 1998, growth
required a move into Creekside Professional Offices. The company now is a
full-service marketing firm, specializing in aiding smaller businesses.
"Home-based businesses are a growing national
trend. People are wise to keep overhead low and take advantage of tax
breaks. Many owners work from home to schedule more time around family,"
Gabrielson-Jaogdzinski said. "Technology allows for a very productive home
office, but there are certain challenges with being home-based. Marketing is
just one of them. My own experience working out of a home office has helped
me better relate to the challenges facing home-based clients."
Involvement in various organizations,
particularly the chamber of commerce, have helped her business. "It is an
invaluable tool in growing your business. Get involved and you'll realize
the benefits," she said.

SBA honors advocates,
entrepreneurs in region
Following is the text of an article from the
Rapid City Journal:
By Dan Daly
Journal Staff Writer
The owner of a backwoods company that exports
paint to China. A 27-year-old manufacturer of custom motorcycle
suspensions. A woman who has turned corporate outsourcing into a full-blown
service business.
These Black Hills entrepreneurs were among the
2002 winners of statewide business awards from the U.S. Small Business
Administration...
Kari Gabrielson-Jagodzinski of Seize the
Day Marketing Group Inc. in Rapid City, won the home-based business advocate
of the year award. For a lot of small businesses, sales and marketing
are the hardest yet most important parts of their enterprises. They
don't have the time or expertise to do it themselves, and they don't have
the money for a full-time sales staff.
Gabrielson-Jagodzinski started Seize the Day
with the idea of providing that kind of service to several businesses. Her
Rapid City company's market is about 3,000 local businesses with 20 or fewer
employees, according to a 1998 Journal feature story.
She also won the Regional Award, claiming the
prize among home-based businesses in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and
North Dakota.
